OOoo..Inspirational!

Ok, this is the post to compensate ytd's post ok? Ok, ytd, we went to supplementary. Ok, it was actually not counted as supplementary. It was maybe a motivating lesson or counted as a life lesson? Ok there were two guys. Bryan Foo and Jonathan Ng. One is from VJC, the other from VS. Both are Queen's ex-student.

The talk by Bryan Foo was rather...hmms..about managing? It did not sort of motivate. But, it taught us how to manage our time, stress and homework. Taught us effective methods(not yet proven BY ME)to apply our knowledge and take it to a test. Maybe could use it in study group?

Method1: To do assessments/hw together to learn more by asking.
Method2: Draw concept maps to test if we really understand the concept.

To me, he had also taught a simpler way for revision. Take hw as a test for it. A new perspective of looking at hw. That makes you realise where your mistakes are so that you can work doubly hard for it. Definitely will try it out. But hope that I have fully understand the topic.

But there's a bigger barrier to break. How do we break the habit of procrastination? My focus is always broken by other interference. That's what he said. He must maintain our self-discipline not only when we are alone. But when we are with study group too. (This paragraph was brought up by Jonathan, just put it here because it would blend nicer.) But there was one sentence that really made the impact doubly, triply, and many many times more.

It's all up to you to take the initiative.

Really makes sense now. But it solely depends on something. How desperate do you want to achieve your goals? Maybe that's why goals make the important point. That is the most inspiring part of all Bryan had said. Now that I have come to this point this really links to what Jonathan Ng said.

He used lots of quotes that really made the impact more than Bryan. He is the inspiring one. He really proved to us how a goal is so important. Maybe this was the part:

"Do you know that in a race, all runners run but only one gets the prize?
Run in such a way to get the prize, all the ones who compete in the race goes into strict training. Beat their bodies and makes them their slaves".

Hmm..Get the whole picture? This make my sentence more prominent. The is only one prize. How desperate do you want it? Input=Output(Total) (Total)Output-interference=Achievement. But this formula is only my way of thinking. But Jonathan's way of thinking was also made sense.

Potential-Interference=Achievement

How much are you willing to put in in order to get the one and only prize? Only through strict training. Only through strict training you have the chance to get the one and only. Does this only work in study areas? It applies to all. No one is born to be a genius to do everything with perfection. But the word 'consistent' play a big part here.

Lets say. In Jan, you study for the whole month for psle. But the other months, you just relax. THIS DOES NOT WORK. You must be consistent, so that the output will be consistent too. Another one. If you practice singing for a competition for one month. The rest of the months you scream and shout like no one's business. Do you think when it comes to the competition, your voice will too be so sweet and smooth. Definitely not. Therefore, 'consistent' is a big star in the 'show'. But without the coordinating stars, the show won't work too. It is 'working smartly'.

How do you work smartly? Just like what Jonathan said. Does just flipping and reading through formulas help you top for math? No. Learn to work smartly. OK lets say. You have read through all the formulas. They are now stored in your brain. But do you know when to apply them and how? These is where 'practicing' the other coordinating star come in. You have to practice in order understand the concept even deeper and how to apply the formula. This little star here not only limit to Math, but it relates to all your other subject. Another example: You have all the concept and keywords for the science examination ready. But when the real time comes. Do you know how to apply it? No. Thus, practicing is also a crucial point to getting a greater output.

But without good places that blends with the plot, the show would not work too. We will have to change in order to achieve breakthrough and greater understanding. We cannot always stick to the same old method unless it is already at perfection. We need to change in order to achieve greater outputs. No risk=no breakthroughs. I'm very sure everyone hopes for it. We must be flexible and we must also think flexibly. We must change in order to have changed results. Who knows whether it will be bad or good? That is why we have to change in order to achieve breakthroughs. We have to keep on self-modifying. But sometimes we did it wrongly. But it also gives encouragement to ourselves. The other quote Jonathan gave:

I did not fail, but I found out 10,000 other ways that does not make the light bulb work.-Thomas Edison

It is true. You can learn from your mistakes. But whether you gain knowledge from it, it depends whether if you are a wise or a fool. A wise will never repeat their mistakes over and over again but learn from it. But a fool will always repeat it over and over again, expecting a different result. That differentiate the wise from the fools.

Actually, one of the quote Jonathan used was really meaningful.

Ask and be a fool for a minute, never ask and be a fool forever.

Hmm..Deep. Deep indeed. Agree with it. If you don't ever ask, you still won't understand the concept while others' are topping it. Maybe asking may make you look like a fool, but to me, I don't feel that way. It is just a simple action: asking. What's wrong with that? Don't know? Just ask! Nothing stupid about it. That simple question always answer my enquires. But there is also a method to asking. That is to ask with critical thinking. Don't ask stupid question that does not relate to the topic. That does not make you a fool for a minute. That may last longer. D:

But when you have finished your input-ting and your output-ting and have got your achievement, sometimes it did not work out. But it is not your fault. You have already tried your best. The other quote Jonathan gave was that encouraging.

I have fought a good fight, I have tried my best. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

You have done your part and tried your best. But on the other hand, people who did not insert input and their effort, they do not deserve to apply this quote to themselves. They had get what they had input-ted. They deserved to get their achievement. But people who had gave their best, they must always keep the faith in order to achieve better results in their future life. It is not the end.

But in the end, it is still this two quotes:

You reap what you sow. -Queen
No sacrifice, no victory. -Jonathan

Like what Queen said, we must really take ownership of what we do. No one control our life, but ourselves. We must keep the responsibility of what we do.

Wow..that was inspiring day, wasn't it? But one thing, we must always treasure the life experience. The two ex-students were really awesome. One somehow taught us to do physically and the other mentally. How I wish to grow up to become like them next time? Great qualities, indeed.

Maybe a quote for you? The tragedy in life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goals to reach. Benjamin Mays

Got it from 6B pupils. Thank you to you.
