Oral Picture 11
This picture depicts a scene at a hawker centre. There are people enjoying their sumptuous meals and others ordering their food.
Scenario1 (cause and effect)
A hawker, that sells prawn noodles, is idling around his stall, waiting for customers. He looks filthy with his mucky apron. There are even flies hovering around the prepared noodles.
The stall and the food prepared looks unhygienic and unsuitable to consume. Probably, that may be the reason why there are no customers patronizing his stall. Hygiene is very important and not to be overlooked at. If the food is eaten, I highly believe that the person will have food poisoning.
Hygiene is not done for the customers, but done for ourselves. I strongly agree that hygiene should be constantly displayed at any place. It is the hawker’s responsibility to serve food that is at good quality.
I will suggest him to clean himself and the stall up to ensure the good hygiene of his food. Moreover, it creates a better first impression to attract the customers. I will also recommend him to place the uncooked noodles in a container do that it is cleaner and looks more pleasant.
Scenario2 (normal)
A family of three is enjoying their meal with wide grins on their radiant faces. The table and the floor look clean, with no remains of the food lying around.
I applaud the family’s table manners as other people will most likely leave the remains of the food spread across the table and floor. Such considerate acts can reduce the number of pests in the hawker centre and can also provide a more pleasant environment for other users.
The cleaners will also have a better time cleaning up the dishes for other users. Their behaviour is commendable and encouraged.
Scenario3 (cause and effect)
A drinker seller has slipped on a banana peel. The cold drinks and ice are spilling onto a woman clad in a striped blouse and white skirt. Probably, it is lunchtime and the woman is spending her time in the hawker centre.
The person who has left the banana peel on the floor is very inconsiderate. People are likely to slip and fall upon stepping on the banana peel. He or she should have anticipated the consequences. Moreover, elderly people are likely to found in a hawker centre picking cans or selling tissues. If they happen to slip on the banana peel, the consequences are dire due to their fragility.
In addition, if more people are as inconsiderate, the hawker centre will have to have more manpower to pick up the litter. Moreover, there are rubbish bins in almost every corner of Singapore, they are obviously oblivious to it. These people have to be educated on the issue and inculcated with the value of being considerate citizens.
I hope that the woman is not hot-tempered or else the drink seller will have a hard time.
Scenario4 (normal)
A woman in clad in office clothes is buying chicken rice. The hawker is attending to her jubilantly. His stall looks neat and clean and the hawker’s attire gives a good first impression.
Personally, I think that it is also the hawker’s responsibility to serve their customers with their smiles. They should not treat their customers with their black faces and atrocious attitude. I believe that the way you treat customers affects the number of customers patronising your shop.
Customers like us will definitely not like to be treated awfully. I will suggest the hawker to put on gloves while chopping the chicken. It is important to maintain good hygiene so that customers will feel safe to patronise your shop in the future. Therefore, I think it is also important for customers to give feedback to the shops. `
Conclusion
The hawker centre is a place where people of all ages have their meals at. It is important for all hawkers to treat their customers with pleasure and keep their food suitable to consume. However, it is also important for users to keep the hawker centres clean and litter-free to create a better environment for other users.
Thus, both users and hawkers contribute to creating a comfortable and conducive environment for all.
